The Global Forum for Community Mental Health (GFCMH) is an international group consisting of mental health service leaders, consumers, family members and organizations involved in community mental health. The first global meeting of the GFCMH was held at the WHO office in Geneva in May, 2007 and it was the first time that consumer groups and family members were invited by the WHO to contribute to the creation of mental health services. The aim of this international network is for users, carers, families, and service providers to support each other in developing and promoting models of effective community based care. All members are united in moving away from providing care through long term institutions and in sending a clear message to all countries that it is essential to include users when developing new models of community mental health care. This is achieved by providing:
- supportive network for all those interested in promoting community mental health services and care for people with severe mental disorders, including the involvement of consumer and advocacy groups.
- sharing selected experiences of regional and country activities on community mental health services and a place to learn lessons from each other’ s experiences.
- identifying barriers and discussing ways to overcome them in order to strengthen community mental health services.
As this is a global network it provides a rich source of experiences from people involved in community mental health from around the globe who are all working in unique ways and in diverse situations. The global forum for community mental health website is a platform where  individual’s can submit their personal and professional experiences relating to community mental health. To submit any information that you wish to be added to the website please contact: Dr Martine Vallarino at gfcmh@marionegri.it.
